Find the ideal coffee grinder

For the perfect coffee experience, the coffee should always be freshly ground. Grinding opens the cells of the coffee beans, releasing flavors and ingredients that later unfold in the hot water. Since ground coffee quickly loses its aroma and quality, it should only be ground shortly before preparation. With GRAEF coffee grinders, which offer a variably adjustable grind, you can create the ideal basis for your personal coffee enjoyment. Choose the right electric coffee grinder and experience the difference freshly ground coffee makes!

The most important questions about coffee grinders – Everything you need to know

  • Why you should grind your own coffee

To get the most flavor out of your coffee, the beans should only be ground Grinding opens the cells of the beans, releasing valuable flavors and nutrients. The shorter the time between grinding and brewing, the fresher and more flavorful your coffee will be. Remember that the flavors can quickly be lost after grinding. Coffee that was ground several days or weeks ago is therefore much less flavorful than freshly ground coffee.

  • Which grind is right for your preparation method

The choice of the right grind depends on the preparation method as well as your personal taste. Different preparation methods require different degrees of fineness to achieve the best result.

    • Fine grind for espresso:
For an espresso, the coffee should be ground very finely. The high pressure and short extraction time require that the coffee is extracted quickly and intensively.

    • Medium grind for filter coffee:
A medium grind is suitable for preparing filter coffee, whether using a traditional filter machine or the hand-brew method. This allows the water to flow evenly through the coffee grounds, optimally extracting the flavors.

    • Coarse for French press:
A French press requires coarse-ground coffee because the water remains in contact with the coffee powder for longer. A powder that is too fine could clog the filter and lead to a bitter taste.
  • That is why the dead space in a coffee grinder should be minimized

The dead space of a coffee grinder describes the area where ground coffee powder or beans remain after grinding. The more coffee remains in the grinder, the less consistent the result. A coffee grinder with minimal dead space ensures that less powder is lost thanks to a clever design and regular cleaning. Less dead space often means greater precision and consistent quality when preparing coffee.

  • The benefits of a single-dose container

Coffee beans should always be freshly ground just before preparation to avoid a loss of flavor. We recommend keeping only as many beans in the bean container of the coffee grinder as you will use in one day. The CM8000 series coffee grinders offer not only the standard bean hopper (350 g) but also an additional single-dose bean hopper (75 g), which is perfect for your daily, fresh portion of coffee.
